BallerCam lets you follow individual athletes so you can keep up with the players you care about and quickly access their games, clips, highlights, and other available content.
Following a player is available in both the BallerCam app and web experience and is separate from claiming or owning an athlete profile.
⭐ Why Follow a Player?
When you follow a player, BallerCam can make it easier to stay connected to that athlete.
Depending on the available game activity, you can:
- Receive notifications when their team goes live
- Receive player-related alerts when they are tagged in supported plays
- Quickly access their saved clips and highlights
- Find the athlete more easily without searching through their team each time
👤 How to Follow a Player
1. Open the Player From Their Team
In the BallerCam app:
- Tap Teams.
- Select the player's team.
- Tap People.
- Select the player you want to follow.
- This opens the player's Athlete Profile.
- Tap Follow or the star icon.
Once the star is selected, the athlete is added to the players you follow.
BallerCam team pages are currently organized into Overview, People, Games, and Clips, with People replacing the previous Roster tab.
⭐ Following From Other Areas of BallerCam
You may also see a star icon next to a player's name in other areas of the BallerCam app or web experience.
When the star is available:
- Tap it to follow the athlete.
- Tap the highlighted star again to unfollow the athlete.
You don't always need to navigate back to the player's team page to update your favorite athletes.
🏠 Finding Your Favorite Athletes on Global Home
Athletes you follow can appear in the Favorite Athletes section on Global Home.
Favorite Athlete cards can surface relevant content such as:
- Games
- Clips
- Moments
Tap an athlete's card to go directly to their Athlete Profile.
This makes Global Home a convenient place to keep up with athletes across multiple teams.
🔔 Player Notifications and Updates
Following an athlete can help personalize the updates you receive.
You may receive:
- An alert when the athlete's team goes live
- Player-related notifications when the athlete is tagged in supported scoring or tagging workflows
- Easier access to available clips and highlights associated with that player
The content available for an athlete depends on how the team's games are filmed, scored, tagged, and processed.
🎬 Player Clips and Highlights
When plays are attributed to specific players, BallerCam can organize supported video content around the athlete.
For example, supported Basketball scoring workflows can create clips automatically when a play is scored in real time from a second device. Those clips can then be associated with the player who was credited with the play.
Following the player makes it easier to return to their available video content.
🏃 If You're Following Your Own Athlete Profile
Players can also follow their own Athlete Profile. For eligible Players joining a team with an uploaded roster, team membership can be approved automatically when their first and last names match the roster entry and either their email or verified phone number exactly matches the roster information.
Athlete Profile ownership still requires the team Creator’s approval, even when team membership is approved automatically. Following a player does not grant ownership or editing access.
➕ Players Joining Without an Uploaded Roster
If an eligible Player joins a team that does not have an uploaded roster, BallerCam guides the Player through Add Yourself.
BallerCam can then create the necessary:
- Roster entry
- Athlete ownership request
- Team association
- BallerCam favorite
The membership still requires Creator approval because the newly created roster entry did not come from trusted uploaded-roster information.
⭐ Following vs. Claiming an Athlete Profile
Following and claiming an athlete profile are different actions.
Following a Player
Following is for keeping up with an athlete.
It can provide:
- Livestream notifications
- Player-related updates
- Quick access to clips and highlights
You do not need to own an athlete profile to follow it.
Claiming an Athlete Profile
Claim Profile lets eligible Players request ownership of their own Athlete Profile. The team Creator must approve the ownership request, even if the Player’s team membership was approved automatically through matching roster information.
When eligible, a Player may be automatically approved through an exact match with trusted roster information. If BallerCam cannot confirm the Player through an exact trusted email or verified-phone match, the claim can be sent to the team Creator for approval.
🔐 Does Following Let Me Edit a Player's Profile?
No.
Following an athlete does not give you:
- Ownership of the athlete profile
- Permission to edit the athlete
- Team-management permissions
- The ability to claim the athlete as your own
Profile ownership is managed separately from following.
This means family members, friends, fans, teammates, and other BallerCam users can follow an athlete without affecting who owns or manages that athlete's profile.
👥 Following a Player Who Is on Multiple Teams
A player may participate on more than one team.
When the same athlete is associated with multiple teams, BallerCam can organize those team associations under a single Athlete Profile, with separate team tabs.
This lets you follow the athlete rather than needing a completely separate athlete profile for each team.
⭐ How to Unfollow a Player
If you no longer want to follow an athlete:
- Open the player's Athlete Profile, or find the player anywhere the star icon appears.
- Tap the highlighted star icon.
- The star will become unselected.
You'll stop receiving the player updates associated with following that athlete.
You can follow the athlete again later by selecting the star again.
🔗 Unfollowing vs. Remove Link
If you're a Player who has claimed or linked your own Athlete Profile, Unfollow and Remove Link do different things.
Unfollow
Use the star icon when you simply want to stop following the athlete.
This changes your favorite/following status but does not remove athlete-profile ownership.
Remove Link
A Player who owns or has linked an Athlete Profile can use:
More → Remove Link
This removes the Player's ownership connection to the athlete profile. After unlinking, edit access is removed and ownership becomes inactive. The Player can claim the athlete again later when eligible.
Use Unfollow if you only want to stop receiving player-related updates.
💡 Best Practices
- Follow athletes you want quick access to throughout the season.
- Use Teams → team → People to find a specific player.
- Look for the star icon throughout BallerCam for a quick way to follow or unfollow.
- Check Favorite Athletes on Global Home for easier access to followed players.
- Make sure player names and roster information are accurate so clips, stats, and other supported content can be attributed correctly.
- Remember that following an athlete does not give you ownership or editing access to their profile.
