The recommended camera height depends on your sport, the size of the playing area, your distance from the sideline or boards, and the available filming space.
📏 Recommended Camera Heights
- Soccer: Approximately 10–15 feet. Around 10 feet can work for smaller fields, while approximately 15 feet is recommended for full-size fields when the venue allows.
- Basketball: Approximately 5–10 feet, positioned near midcourt along the sideline.
- Volleyball — Sideline: Approximately 7–12 feet, positioned near the center of the net.
- Volleyball — Baseline: Approximately 6–10 feet, with the full court visible. Baseline filming uses a fixed view without auto-panning.
- Ice Hockey: Approximately 10–12 feet, aligned with the center red line and approximately 6–8 feet behind the boards. Position above the glass when possible, or choose a clear panel with minimal reflections and no supports blocking the view.
- Lacrosse and Flag Football / 7v7: Use an elevated sideline position that keeps the playing area visible above nearby players and spectators.
📐 Adjust Your Framing
Treat these heights as starting points. Adjust the height and tilt until the full playing area is clearly framed.
Use a tilt adapter when needed to angle BallerCam toward the action. Check both goals or baskets, the near sideline or boards, and any areas where players might block the view.
✅ Before You Start
- Check the camera preview.
- Avoid spectators, benches, equipment, and other obstructions.
- Keep the tripod level and secure.
- Follow venue rules for elevated filming setups.
- Run a short test recording before the game.
