If you've been given a team share link, you can join your team on BallerCam in just a few steps.
Your joining experience and permissions depend on the role you select. BallerCam supports team roles such as Coach, Parent/Guardian, Team Admin, and Player, with different approval and permission rules for each role.
The Player role is available for athletes age 13 and older, including players on Adult teams.
🔗 How to Join a Team
1. Get the Team Link
The team Creator will send you a single shareable team link through:
- Text
- Team chat
- Another messaging app
Open the link to begin joining the team on the web or in the BallerCam app.
2. Sign Up or Log In
If you don't already have a free BallerCam account, you'll be prompted to create one.
If you already have an account, simply log in and continue.
3. Select Your Role
Choose the role that applies to you.
Depending on the team, available roles may include:
- Coach
- Parent/Guardian
- Team Admin
- Player
The next steps depend on the role you select.
🧑🏫 Joining as a Coach or Team Admin
After selecting Coach or Team Admin, your request is sent to the team's Creator for approval.
While you are waiting for approval, you can continue with fan-level access, including:
- Watching livestreams and replays
- Receiving alerts when the team goes live
- Receiving final-score notifications
Once the Creator approves your request, the permissions associated with your role become available.
Default Coach and Team Admin Access
Depending on the team's permission settings, Coaches and Team Admins may be able to:
- Add or edit players on the roster
- Score games from their own device
- End livestreams
- Monitor livestream connectivity
- Film games using a compatible iPhone and BallerCam setup
- Make and share highlight clips
- Watch livestreams and replays
- Receive push alerts and final-score notifications
The team Creator can adjust permissions for individual members when needed.
👪 Joining as a Parent/Guardian
After selecting Parent/Guardian, your request is sent to the team Creator for approval.
While your request is pending, you can continue using fan-level viewing features.
Once approved, Parents/Guardians can access the permissions enabled by the Creator.
By default, Parents/Guardians can:
- Watch livestreams and replays
- Receive alerts when the team goes live
- Receive final-score notifications
- Make and share highlight clips when enabled
- Film games when enabled
Parents/Guardians do not have Keep Score permission by default. The team Creator can enable it through Roles & Permissions.
Note: Parent/Guardian functionality does not apply to Adult teams. Parent-related options are hidden for Adult teams.
🏃 Joining as a Player
The Player role allows eligible athletes to join their team and connect their BallerCam account with their athlete profile.
The Player role is available for athletes who are 13 years old or older.
During registration:
- Players who are exactly 13 are eligible.
- Players under 13 are not eligible for the Player role.
- The Player's birthdate is used to determine eligibility and remains private.
The joining process depends on whether the team already has an uploaded roster.
👤 Joining a Team With an Uploaded Roster
If the team has an uploaded roster, BallerCam can automatically approve your team membership when:
- Your first and last names match the roster entry, and
- Your account email or verified phone number exactly matches the trusted contact information for that player.
When an exact match is found:
- Your team membership can be automatically approved.
- The athlete is automatically followed from your account.
- Athlete Profile ownership still requires the team Creator's approval.
- A pending Athlete Profile claim remains until the Creator approves it.
🔎 If BallerCam Cannot Find an Exact Match
If your first and last names do not match, or neither your email nor verified phone number matches the trusted roster information, BallerCam will not automatically match your account to a player.
You'll see:
Which Player Are You?
Select the roster entry that belongs to you.
Your:
- Team membership
- Athlete-profile claim
will then remain pending until the team Creator approves the request.
If multiple athletes could potentially match, BallerCam will not automatically select one for you. This helps prevent the wrong account from being connected to an athlete.
➕ Joining a Team Without an Uploaded Roster
If your team doesn't have an uploaded roster, you'll be taken directly to:
Add Yourself
Available information from your BallerCam account, such as your name and contact details, can be prefilled.
BallerCam then creates the necessary:
- Roster entry
- Athlete ownership request
- Team association
- BallerCam favorite
Because the athlete information was created by a joining member rather than coming from a trusted uploaded roster, Creator approval is still required before your membership is confirmed.
✅ Player Approval
Athlete Profile claims require Creator approval, including when team membership has already been approved automatically. If both team membership and the linked Athlete Profile claim are pending, a single Creator approval covers both:
- Team membership
- The linked athlete-profile claim
After approval, the roster, Global Home, athlete profile, and pending states update automatically.
🔐 Athlete Profile Ownership
BallerCam protects athlete profiles from competing ownership claims.
If another user already owns an athlete profile:
- Another user cannot claim the athlete.
- The athlete cannot be reassigned through a new Player request.
- Claim Profile will not appear for another user.
This helps prevent multiple accounts from being connected as the owner of the same athlete.
👤 Claiming Your Athlete Profile
Eligible confirmed Players may see Claim Profile on their Athlete Profile. Select it to request ownership.
Athlete Profile ownership requires the team Creator's approval, even when your names and contact information match the roster. While your request is waiting for approval, the profile displays Claim Pending.
After approval, the athlete-profile owner can select Edit to update permitted player information.
🔗 Removing Your Athlete Profile Link
Players who own or have claimed an athlete profile can remove their connection by going to:
More → Remove Link
After unlinking:
- Edit access is removed.
- Claim Pending is removed, if applicable.
- Athlete ownership becomes inactive.
- The ownership is not immediately recreated automatically.
- You can claim the athlete again later if you're eligible.
⚙️ Default Player Permissions
Players have their own default permission set.
| Permission | Default |
|---|---|
| Keep Score | ✅ Enabled |
| Film | ❌ Disabled |
| Manage Members | ❌ Disabled |
| Manage Roster | ❌ Disabled |
The team Creator can change these permissions for individual Players when appropriate.
Any custom Player permissions remain in place after refreshing the app or signing in again.
🧑 Adult Teams
Adult teams have a simplified joining experience because Parent/Guardian functionality does not apply.
For Adult teams:
- Parent/Guardian is not available.
- Players can join using the Player role.
- Players joining a team without an uploaded roster go directly to Add Yourself.
- Parent-related sections are removed from People, Roles & Permissions, Edit Player, and Athlete Profile.
- Invitations use Invite Players language instead of parent-focused actions.
✅ Key Reminders
- Use the team share link provided by the team's Creator to join.
- Coaches, Parents/Guardians, and Team Admins may require Creator approval before their full permissions become available.
- The Player role is available to athletes age 13 and older.
Player team membership can be automatically approved when both first and last names match the roster entry, along with an exact email or verified-phone match.
- If there is no exact match, select your athlete from Which Player Are You? and wait for Creator approval.
- If no uploaded roster exists, use Add Yourself to create your roster association.
Athlete Profile ownership requires Creator approval, even when team membership is automatically approved. If both requests are pending, one Creator approval can confirm both.
- Existing athlete ownership is protected from competing claims.
- Players have Keep Score enabled by default, while Film, Manage Members, and Manage Roster are disabled by default.
- Parent/Guardian functionality is not used for Adult teams.
