When filming volleyball with BallerCam, camera placement plays an important role in keeping the court, players, and rallies visible. This guide explains the two common setup options—Sideline and Baseline—and how a second device can be used for scoring and other game controls while the primary device continues filming.
🏐 Sideline Setup
- Place the camera along the side of the court, typically near the middle of the court.
- Position the camera far enough from the court to maintain a clear view of the playing area.
- Keep spectators, benches, and other obstacles out of the camera’s field of view.
- Make sure the entire court remains within the camera’s tracking area.
- Use a stable height and position that gives the camera enough space to pan smoothly.
🏐 Baseline Setup
- Place the camera behind one end of the court, facing toward the opposite side.
- Position it directly behind the baseline when possible.
- Maintain enough distance to keep the full playing area visible.
- Keep a clear line of sight toward the net and opposite baseline.
- Avoid positions where players, officials, or equipment can repeatedly block the view.
🎥 Filming Screen Controls
- Zoom Controls: Adjust the camera view during filming.
- Filming Controls: Manage the active filming session.
- Game Information: View relevant game details while filming.
- Recording Status: Monitor the current filming and stream status.
📱 Using a Second Device
Another person can keep score from a secondary iOS device, including a supported iPad, while the filming iPhone stays mounted and continues recording.
- The scorekeeper must be signed in to a BallerCam account connected to the team and have Keep Score permission.
- Once the game is in progress:
- Open BallerCam on the secondary iOS device.
- Find the active game on Global Home.
- Tap Keep Score.
- Review Game Settings, including Point Classification and Assign to Player if you want to use them.
- Tap Start Scoring.
- Use a stable internet connection for live second-device scoring.
✅ Key Reminders
- Sideline setups work best when the camera is near midcourt with both sides visible.
- Baseline setups work best when the camera is behind the end line with the full court in view.
- Keep the net, players, and playing area visible and avoid extreme angles or obstructions.
- Check framing before the game starts and confirm the setup stays stable during rallies and camera movement.
Use a secondary iOS device with Keep Score permission to manage scoring without interrupting the filming iPhone.
