When you're ready to film a game with BallerCam, you can choose whether to livestream while recording or record the game without going live.
No matter which option you choose, BallerCam saves a high-quality local recording to your iPhone so you can upload the HD version after the game.
🎥 Choose How You Want to Film
BallerCam gives you two filming options:
Live Stream + Record
Choose Live Stream when you want viewers to watch the game as it happens.
Your game will:
- Stream live to viewers
- Record locally to your iPhone at the same time
- Be available as a replay after the livestream ends
- Allow you to upload the local HD recording afterward to improve replay quality
Record Only
Choose Record when you want to capture the game without broadcasting it live.
Your game will:
- Record locally to your iPhone
- Not be available to viewers while you're filming
- Become available to others after you upload the recording
Record can be useful when:
- You don't need a livestream
- Your internet connection is weak or unavailable
- You want to capture the game now and upload it later
📱 How Local Recording Works
BallerCam saves a high-quality recording directly to the filming iPhone regardless of whether you choose Live Stream or Record.
The local recording:
- Is saved in 1080p HD
- Is not affected by livestream connection quality
- Remains on your iPhone until it is uploaded or removed
- Is not automatically saved to your iPhone Camera Roll
Because the local recording is stored on your device, make sure you have enough available iPhone storage before filming.
A typical soccer recording can use approximately 10 GB of local storage per hour.
📡 Live Stream + Record
When you select Live Stream, viewers can watch the game in real time while BallerCam also creates a local HD recording.
Livestream Quality
BallerCam livestreams can broadcast at up to 720p.
The local recording remains 1080p HD, even if the livestream experiences buffering or skips because of an unstable internet connection.
After the Game
When the livestream ends:
- Viewers can access the replay.
- The initial replay may be available in 720p.
- Uploading the local HD recording allows the replay to upgrade to 1080p HD.
A stable internet connection with sufficient upload speed is required for livestreaming.
⏺️ Record
When you choose Record:
- The game is not broadcast live.
- BallerCam creates a local HD recording on your iPhone.
- You can review the recording on the filming device after the game.
- Other viewers will not have access to the replay until the recording is uploaded.
Record can work offline if you were signed in to BallerCam before going offline. Sign in while you have an internet connection, then record your game and upload it when you reconnect.
🚀 How to Start Filming a Game
The example below shows Basketball setup. Available options and camera-positioning guidance vary by sport.
1. Select Your Team
Tap the Film icon. In Film New Game, select the team you want to film.
2. Choose Live Stream or Record
Select how you want to capture the event:
- Live Stream (+Record) — broadcast live while also saving a recording to your iPhone.
- Record — save a recording to your iPhone without broadcasting live. This is Record Only mode.
- Schedule — create an upcoming event instead of filming immediately.
For offline recording, sign in to BallerCam before going offline.
3. Confirm Your iPhone Is in BallerCam
Install your supported filming iPhone in the BallerCam case and turn on Do Not Disturb.
When the confirmation screen appears, tap Yes, Continue. You can select Don't show this again to hide this reminder in future sessions.
Filming requires an iPhone 13 Pro or newer.
4. Choose the Event Type
On Choose Game Type, select Game to film and score a game, or Practice to film a practice.
Optionally add a description, such as the league, tournament, or session name. Tap Continue.
5. Build the Matchup
For a game:
- Confirm whether your team is Home or Away.
- Confirm your team name.
- Tap Add opponent to enter or select the opposing team.
- Use the pencil icons beside the jerseys to select each team's jersey color.
- Tap Continue.
6. Review Filming Options
Choose the options available for your event:
- Count toward Team Stats — include the result in season records and player leaders.
- Display logo overlay — show your team logo on the video.
- Stream with RTMP — send the livestream to an external destination.
Logo Overlay and RTMP require the corresponding premium access. RTMP is available for livestreams and requires the destination's server address and stream key.
Tap Continue when you're ready.
7. Select the Filming Type
Choose the filming type that matches your setup. For Basketball, the options shown are:
- Sideline with Auto Panning — recommended for full- or half-court filming from the sideline.
- Static Mode — for baseline, corner, or half-court filming.
Tap Continue. Other sports may show different options.
8. Complete the iPhone Checks
Allow BallerCam to check camera and microphone access, device compatibility, available storage, and connection readiness.
Follow any instructions shown to resolve an issue before proceeding.
9. Position Your Camera
Follow the positioning guidance for your sport.
For the Basketball sideline setup shown:
- Position the camera approximately 5–10 feet high.
- If filming from the stands, use a lower row.
- Keep the downward tilt slight—approximately 0–15 degrees.
Remove the lens cover, connect the cooling fan and power source, and secure the tripod. Tap the forward arrow to continue.
10. Start Filming and Raise the Tripod
Tap Go Live for a livestream or Start Recording for Record Only, then raise the tripod to the appropriate filming height.
Keep BallerCam open while Setup in Progress is displayed. Do not leave this screen.
Once setup finishes, check the camera view and filming status before play begins.
📱 During the Game
Once filming begins, keep an eye on the filming screen.
Depending on your sport and setup, you may see controls or information for:
- Recording status
- Livestream status
- Camera controls
- Game information
- Scoring
- Period or set information
- Other sport-specific controls
A secondary iOS device can be used to keep score and mark Moments while the filming iPhone records. Older compatible iPhones and iPads can be used; the iPhone 13 Pro or newer requirement applies to filming. The person keeping score needs Keep Score permission.
Only one filming iPhone can publish a scheduled livestream at a time. If filming is interrupted, use the original filming iPhone to resume. Other devices can still keep score, mark Moments, or watch.
If the live connection is lost, the app displays a warning while local recording continues. Check your connection and recording status.
For live Soccer games, Stream Health shows the latest camera-setup grade after a successful live reassessment. Open Manage Camera for the detailed assessment and recommendations.
🛑 Ending the Game
When the game is over, use the filming controls to end your stream or recording.
Before ending, make sure:
- The game has officially finished
- The final score is correct, if you're keeping score
- Any required game information has been updated
After ending the stream or recording, wait for BallerCam to confirm that recording has stopped and finished saving before closing the app.
If you end a game while offline, BallerCam saves the completion request and sends it when your connection returns.
☁️ Uploading Your HD Recording
After filming, Global Home can show the game under Recently Filmed.
Depending on its status, you may see:
- Upload
- Processing
- Watch Replay
Upload the local HD recording when you're ready so the high-quality version can be processed and stored in BallerCam.
For livestreamed games, uploading the HD recording can improve the replay from the initial livestream-quality version to the full HD version.
If a Record only session or upload is interrupted, reopen BallerCam on the original filming iPhone and check for recovery or upload actions. Reconnect to a stable network and resume or retry the upload. Keep the local recording until the upload completes successfully.
