Scoring in BallerCam helps create a more engaging game experience for fans, players, and teams. You can keep score directly from the filming iPhone or use a secondary iOS device to track the score, player attribution, and advanced basketball stats.
β Reminder: Scorekeeping requires Keep Score permission for the team. Players have this permission enabled by default. Fans can also keep score when the team Creator enables it for them.
π± Scoring from the Filming iPhone (Primary Device)
You can keep score directly from the iPhone that is filming the game.
Considerations
- This may not be practical when filming from a tall tripod because you may not be able to reach the screen.
- Primary-device scoring works best with lower setups, such as bleachers, tables, or walls.
- You can enter or correct the final score after the game once the filming device is accessible.
- Scores can be edited after the game in the BallerCam app.
- Scoring from the primary device provides a simpler scoring experience compared with the advanced options available when using a secondary device.
How to Score on the Primary Device
Start your livestream or Record Only session.
- On the filming screen, tap the Score button, shown as the sport-specific ball icon next to the Stop button.
- The + / β scoring controls will appear for each team.
- Tap + to add a point and β to remove or correct a point.
- Tap the Score button again to hide the scoring controls when you want to clear your filming view.
Team colors displayed on the scoring controls match the colors selected during game setup.
βοΈ Selecting Quarters or Halves
When you score the first point, BallerCam will prompt you to:
- Select the period format: Quarters or Halves.
- Select the current period, such as 1st Quarter or 1st Half.
Make sure the correct period format is selected before continuing.
Editing Scores
Tap the pencil icon next to a team's abbreviation to manually edit the score or team information.
From this screen, you can also:
- Correct the team name
- Adjust team jersey colors
- Correct the score
π² Scoring from a Secondary iOS Device β Recommended
Using a secondary iOS device is recommended for Basketball scoring and statistics. The filming iPhone can remain mounted while another person manages the score, player attribution, and Advanced Stats.
The secondary device can be an older supported iPhone or iPad running the BallerCam app. The iPhone 13 Pro or newer requirement applies to filming, not secondary-device scoring.
How to Start Scoring from a Secondary Device
- Sign in to the BallerCam app using an account connected to the correct team with Keep Score permission.
- From Global Home, find the game currently in progress.
- Tap Keep Score.
- The first time you enter scoring, you will be taken to Game Settings.
- Configure your scoring preferences.
- Tap Start Scoring.
Game Settings
Before scoring begins, configure how you want to track the game.
You can:
- Select Halves or Quarters
- Choose whether to track Advanced Stats
- Choose whether to associate stats with players on your team
- Choose whether to track the opposing team's stats
- Choose whether to associate opponent stats with players
β οΈ Important: Once a score has been added, you cannot change the selected time-period format between Halves and Quarters.
π Choosing a Scoring Mode
BallerCam gives you flexibility in how much information you want to record during a game.
Basic Scoring
Basic Scoring is the default option.
You can record:
- 2-pointers
- 3-pointers
- Free throws
This is the simplest option when you primarily want to keep the team score updated.
Player Stats
Player Stats adds player attribution to Basic Scoring.
After recording a basket, BallerCam can prompt you to select the player who scored.
You can:
- Select a player by jersey number
- Choose any player already on your roster
- Tap the empty jersey with the + icon to add a player
- Tap I'm Not Sure if you do not know who scored
Tracking Assists
When assist tracking is enabled, you can identify the player who assisted after recording a scoring play.
If you do not want to track assists, you can skip assist attribution and continue scoring.
π Advanced Scoring
Advanced Scoring lets you record more basketball actions beyond standard points.
Advanced Stats can be tracked for your team or, depending on your game setup, for both teams.
Available advanced stats include:
- Assists
- Offensive Rebounds
- Defensive Rebounds
- Turnovers
- Steals
- Blocks
- Fouls
- Timeouts
- Misses, when enabled
Advanced Stats are customizable, allowing you to use a smaller group of stats for a simpler game or a more complete stat set for a detailed basketball breakdown.
βοΈ Customize Advanced Stats
You can choose which Advanced Stats you want to track for each individual game.
When a stat is enabled or disabled, the scoring screen updates so you only see the buttons you chose to use.
Your selections also determine which information appears in post-game summaries and the web game breakdown.
Stats You Can Customize
Depending on your scoring setup, you can enable or disable:
- Fouls
- Steals
- Blocks
- Turnovers
- Offensive Rebounds (O-REB)
- Defensive Rebounds (D-REB)
- Assists
- Misses
Misses are optional. If misses are disabled, shooting-percentage information that depends on missed-shot data may not appear.
Your selected stats apply only to that game and are not saved as a global account setting.
Before the Game
To choose the stats you want to track:
- Enter Game Settings before scoring.
- Enable Advanced Stats.
- Select the stats you want available during the game.
- Save or continue into scoring.
The scoring interface will display only the stat controls you selected.
During the Game
As you keep score, use the Advanced Stat buttons to record additional events.
For example, after a missed shot you may record:
- MISS
- O-REB for an offensive rebound
- D-REB for a defensive rebound
Other events such as turnovers, steals, blocks, fouls, and timeouts can be logged as they occur.
Changing Stats During the Game
You can update which Advanced Stats are enabled while a game is in progress.
- Open Game Settings.
- Turn individual stats on or off.
- Save your changes.
Turning a stat off removes that button from the scoring interface going forward. Previously recorded events are not deleted.
π Game Log and Roster
Advanced Scoring includes two useful areas for monitoring the game.
Game Log
The Game Log displays the plays you have recorded and the players associated with those events.
Use the Game Log to review scoring and stat entries during the game.
Roster
The Roster tab displays players and their game statistics.
From here, you can:
- Review player-level stats
- Favorite players
- Select a player to view additional statistics
- Access player-specific plays or clips when available
βοΈ Viewing and Editing Player Stats
If an event was entered incorrectly:
- Open the Game Log.
- Find the scoring or stat entry.
- Tap the pencil icon.
- Edit or delete the event.
Depending on the event, you can correct:
- The player
- The scoring team
- The recorded action
When you correct or remove an assist, the displayed assist totals update accordingly. Editing a scoring play preserves its replay timing and associated video unless you change the timestamp.
π¬ Automated Player Clips
Keeping score in real time on a secondary device can also help BallerCam create clips around the plays you record.
Tap a play in Play-by-Play to view the related clip. From there, you may be able to save, clip, or share the moment.
Player clips can also be accessed through the Roster, allowing you to view plays associated with a specific athlete.
π Post-Game Editing
After the game, Creators and Members with the appropriate access can review recorded scoring plays and make corrections.
Depending on the available post-game tools, you can:
- Adjust timestamps
- Correct player attribution
- Edit or delete events
- Add scoring plays or stats that were missed during live scoring
π·οΈ Basketball Tag Stats in the App
After uploading the gameβs HD recording, you can use Basketball Tag Stats inside the BallerCam app to tag and edit replay events.
You can work in portrait or landscape, including games with imported Smart Plays.
Use Tag Stats to review the recording, add missed events, and correct player or play information. Place each event at the correct point in the replay and review your changes for accuracy.
π Game Breakdown and Stats on the Web
When Advanced Stats are recorded, BallerCam can use that information in post-game summaries and web game breakdowns.
Depending on the stats enabled for that game and feature availability, viewers may see information such as:
- Player statistics
- Quarter-by-quarter information
- Shot distribution
- Shot charts
- Roster stat tables
The available information can vary based on which stats were tracked during the game.
π₯ Downloading Basketball Box Scores
Basketball Box Scores provide player statistics and team totals.
Before exporting:
- Select the team or teams you want to include.
- Choose the available statistics and filters.
- Set your preferred sorting.
- Choose PNG, PDF, or CSV as the export format.
The export matches the selected teams, statistics, sorting, and filters shown in the Box Score.
If recent changes have not appeared, check your connection and refresh the Box Score before exporting. Use the retry option if loading fails.
π₯ Multiple Scorers
More than one eligible team member can score a game.
When multiple people are scoring:
- BallerCam may show who most recently entered a scoring event.
- There is no need to claim the scorer role before the game.
- Eligible users with Keep Score permission can help score the same game.
- Coordinate with other scorers to avoid entering the same play more than once.
Using one dedicated scorer is generally easier when detailed Advanced Stats are being tracked.
β Best Practices Before the Game
For a smoother scoring experience:
- Confirm that the scoring account is connected to the correct team and has Keep Score permission.
- Make sure the scoring device has a stable internet connection.
- Verify that you are signed into the correct team.
- Consider using Do Not Disturb or disabling notifications so messages do not interrupt scoring.
- Select Halves or Quarters before entering the first score.
- Load your roster before warmups and verify player names and jersey numbers.
- Add any missing players before the game when possible.
- Choose your intended scoring mode before play begins.
- Select only the Advanced Stats you actually want to track.
- Before each new period begins, verify that the correct quarter or half is selected.
βΉοΈ Best Practices While Scoring
For each scoring play, use the same sequence:
- Watch the result. Confirm that the shot went in.
- Read the official. Confirm whether it was a 2-pointer, 3-pointer, or free throw.
- Identify the player. Jersey number is often easier to recognize quickly than a name.
- Enter the event once. Avoid repeated taps, especially if the app or network responds slowly.
- Confirm the total. Make sure the team score increased by the expected amount.
- Return your attention to the court. Avoid staying focused on the scoring device longer than necessary.
This approach helps reduce duplicate entries and incorrect player attribution during fast-paced play.
