When you’re ready to film with BallerCam, you’ll need to choose how you want to capture your game. Creators have two options:
- Livestream (+ Record)
- Record (Only)
Let’s walk through how each option works, what fans can see, and how to start filming in the app.
How Recording Works in BallerCam
No matter which option you choose, BallerCam always records a high-quality video file locally to your iPhone.
- We record in 4K and output the local file in 1080p HD.
- The local recording is not affected by your internet connection.
- This raw video is saved directly to your iPhone (but is not automatically saved to your Camera Roll).
- Local recordings take up storage on your iPhone until you upload them to the BallerCam cloud. Soccer games typically use around 10 GB of storage per hour. (See more about storage requirements here. [link])
Option 1: Livestream (+ Record)
When you select Livestream (+ Record), your game will:
- Stream live to your team’s fans, members, and viewers in the BallerCam app and on web.
- Be saved locally in 1080p HD to your iPhone at the same time.
- Be immediately available as a replay to viewers when the game ends.
- The replay is initially available in 720p quality.
- If you upload your HD recording later, the replay will automatically upgrade to 1080p HD for all viewers.
- The replay is initially available in 720p quality.
Key Details:
- Livestreaming requires a minimum internet upload speed. (See livestreaming internet requirements here. [link])
- Livestreams are broadcast at up to 720p quality.
- Local recording is always 1080p HD.
- Even if your livestream buffers or skips due to internet issues, your local recording will stay smooth and complete.
- Even if your livestream buffers or skips due to internet issues, your local recording will stay smooth and complete.
- After the game, you can upload your HD recording to improve the replay quality for fans.
Option 2: Record (Only)
When you select Record (Only):
- Your game will not livestream to viewers.
- You will still have a local HD recording saved to your iPhone.
- Viewers cannot watch the game live, and replays will not be visible to others until you upload the game.
Key Details:
- Creators can immediately watch the HD replay on their iPhone after the game.
- If you don’t upload the game later, no one else will be able to see it.
- Useful when:
- You don’t need to share the game live.
- You’re in a location with weak or no internet.
- You’re simply capturing footage for later use.
- You don’t need to share the game live.
